ExploreCharleston.net was developed completely from scratch. Our website is first and foremost a labor of love. This website demonstrates why we are drawn back to the Charleston area again and again.

All featured attractions were either personally visited by us or we plan to visit them in the near future.

All reviews were constructed based on our own experiences or expectations (if we have not yet visited the site.)

All photographs were taken by either Charles or Steven.

We are not affiliated in any shape or form with any commercial entity.

Most of the discussion forum areas require registration. Registration is used solely for the purpose of fighting spam. Your registration information will never be given away or sold.

ExploreCharleston.net has been tested with Firefox 2, Internet Explorer 6 and 7, Opera 9.2, and Safari 3.1. We have made every effort to ensure that the page layouts display correctly in each browser, however, there are still occasional oddities. Currently, the Google Maps do not initially display correctly in Safari and require a switch between the Map and Hybrid Satellite views. Internet Explorer 6 does not correctly display the main page and attraction category page layouts correctly.

We have attempted to verify the accuracy of the historical information included in this site. If you encounter something that is factually inaccurate, please feel free to contact us either through the guestbook or the discussion forum.

If you are a Charleston native, resident, or frequent visitor we especially welcome your comments, suggestions, or your own recommendations of local attractions that we may not have visited.
Charleston and the Lowcountry communities offer history, relaxation, culture, and a great escape from everyday life. No matter what you are looking for in your travels, Charleston has something to offer you!

The city of Charleston proper is located on a peninsula created by two rivers, and Charleston County includes areas east of the Cooper River and west of the Ashley River, along with an assortment of barrier islands along the Atlantic coast.

In the city of Charleston's Old and Historic District on the peninsula, we have extensively explored the areas of Meeting, Market, King, Church, Chalmers, Tradd, Queen, Water and Battery Streets, yet we still discover new attractions, shops, tours, and historical facts with each visit.

The surrounding communities include the towns of Mount Pleasant, Sullivan's Island, and Isle of Palms, all east of the Cooper River from downtown. The town of Folly Beach, and the Charleston County communities of West Ashley, James Island, John's Island, Wadmalaw Island, Kiawah Island, and Seabrook Island are all located west of the Ashley River from downtown. All of these communities have their own character and identity and offer a wide variety of attractions and getaways from downtown Charleston.
Attraction Browser- The Attraction Browser will let you scan through our collection of 90+ area attractions that we have visited or plan to visit. The categories include restaurants, tours, civil war sites, historic homes, beaches, and more. Each has first-hand descriptions, reviews, and ratings by myself and Steven. It's the best way to find the attractions that interest you the most!

Discussion Forum- We will occasionally post news and blog-style entries to the forum. We have included detailed travel journals that cover 5 of our trips. Additionally, if you have questions, want to share your Charleston area trip and photos, or know of other attractions worth visiting, you can create an account in our discussion forum and share!
